Why should I take medication?

Maybe you shouldn’t! However, usually when you’re struggling enough with symptoms you can’t seem to handle alone or with various methods you’ve already tried, medication can help you get going in the right direction. Medication can help you begin to heal and pick up the pieces. Specifically with PTSD, once you get a foundation of support beneath you, you may decide you want to work on the ‘heart’ or ‘core’ of the issue and engage in evidence-based psychotherapy (usually Prolonged Exposure (PE) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)) that treats the root of your PTSD difficulties. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has also been proven to be helpful too. This is where the real healing begins. When you’re ready, I can help refer you to a therapist for these specialized forms of psychotherapy aimed at addressing the underlying cause of PTSD difficulties.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different challenges and goals, treatment will vary some depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach and medication suggestions to your specific needs. We will look at options together and my job will be to develop a treatment plan with you that feels good, makes sense to you, and takes into account your values, wants, and needs. It is also vital and very important that our treatment plan makes good clinical sense based on the research available regarding the effective treatment of PTSD, anxiety, or depression.

Will my insurance reimburse me?

I have many clients who have health insurance, but I do not directly bill their health insurance provider. Your insurance may consider me an ‘Out-of-Network Provider’ and provide reimbursement to you according to your health insurance plan. I can provide you with a monthly billing statement (a "superbill")  for reimbursement if you wish to submit this to your insurance company. Please check your insurance company’s policy if you plan to use this method, as requirements vary from company to company.

I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized form, used by healthcare providers in the United States, which details services provided to a patient. It is the main data source for creation of a healthcare claim, which will be submitted to payers (insurances, funds, programs) for reimbursement.
